Welcome to issue 6 of the LSF's Wellred Weekly, brimming with all manner of spanko-related articles for your delectation. The long winter is almost over and Spring is in the air. Anyone lucky enough (or unlucky, depending on your perspective!) to be 'taken to the woodshed' can admire the first flowers of Spring en route. Take hold of Js_anon's hand as he takes us on a trip to the woodshed and explains why the phrase and its connotations exude such powerful imagery. If you don't have a woodshed of your own, worry not, there are other means of getting down to the nitty gritty. In her article Katie B gives a few tips on self-spanking. Do-it-yourself has never been more appealing!

What do horror-aficionado's have in common with spanking fiction? For the answer, read Rollin's piece which explains the concept of 'the reveal' as used in horror movies, and aligns it with the way in which writers of spanking fiction can use a particular technique to build suspense. Next, Februs reveals an entrepreneurial missionary of corporal punishment called Eric Wildman. Here is a man who preached the CP gospel whilst campaigning vociferously to defeat the abolition of judicial corporal punishment. He sold a variety of spanking-related literature and implements including canes and birches and tawses. One doesn't have to visit a specialist outlet to purchase that most masculine of spanking implements - the belt. Dan2bend sings the praises of this dual-purpose item and explores its association with gender identity. "Versatile, feared, effective, and worn everyday without suspicion: what an instrument!"

Continuing our series of articles on school day recollections, Lincoln takes us on a trip down memory lane as he recalls his first day at school with Mrs Hardy and her trusty ruler. This is a nostalgic piece which paints a picture of growing up during the constraints of the war years and being subjected to discipline at school. The preparatory boarding school referred to sounds like a particularly grim establishment. On a lighter note, yours truly presents a profile on 'The Queen of Pinups' - Bettie Page. I discovered a few images of her on the internet which prompted further research, revealing Bettie as the first famous bondage and SM model. Her career involved modelling for photographs and acting out spanking scenes in the early films of Irving and Paula Klaw. Ironically, since her death in 2008, Bettie has been elevated to pop-cultural icon status, and a wealth of Bettie Page memorabilia is now available for sale over the internet.

We welcome the selected author for our regular interview slot, with this issue featuring Grace Brackenridge. She gives a frank and open account of how she got started in writing spanking fiction and explains how a childhood incident triggered her kink re the spanking fetish. Corporal punishment was a pervasive aspect of her childhood, and as she grew older the fear of corporal punishment turned into a source of sexual arousal. I'm sure that many of us spanko's will identify with that statement. Still on the topic of words, Dr Keate focuses on the power of words in dialogue. Poor dialogue can be an embarrassment, but done well, it brings a spanking story to life and can turn a good story into something quite exceptional.

No doubt many of our readers interested in F/F will be familiar with some of the spanking art of Belgian artist, Jean-Philippe. If you haven't yet come across JPC, do take a look at his fabulous creations. In the interview he reveals that he is a spanker in real life, and tells us what inspires him to draw. Moving on to the spanking scene in general, Sarah Thorne takes an in-depth look at the mantra Safe, Sane and Consensual. She provides some useful and practical advice, particularly directed towards newbies getting ready to take those first tentative steps to meet a potential spanking partner.

Last but certainly not least we have Alef's thought-provoking article comparing spankologies. He coins the term 'spanking mythology' as a collection of beliefs, fantasies, dreams, habits and feelings that unite us as spankos, and in his article he examines the deep and fundamental attitudes that unite and separate us.

This issue is supplemented by two original cartoons from Tiptopper. Thanks to everyone for their contributions, and don't forget to get in touch if you have something you would like to write about for subsequent issues.
