Red Bottoms for Green Thumbs
by Hermione

Spring has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, and with it the urge to get out into the garden and start clearing the flower beds and cultivating the soil. But a love for the feel of warm earth on one's hands doesn't mean having to forego the joys of feeling a warm bottom under those hands. In fact, gardening offers plenty of bottom-warming opportunities, as I have learned first hand.

Implements
Gardening tools can easily serve double duty as spanking implements. A hand trowel works well on any denim-clad bottom in the vicinity, and a gentle but firm swat with a flat spade inspires many a reluctant assistant to work a little harder. There is always plenty of wood to be had in a garden. Flat wooden row markers can be vigorously applied to naughty hindquarters before being inserted at the end of a row of carrot seeds. Bamboo stakes are excellent for impromptu canings, but beware of splinters.

After pruning trees or shrubs, don't throw those discarded branches away. They can be tied into bundles and used for recreating a Victorian birching scene before being put onto the compost pile. That flyswatter you keep handy for chasing away pesky insects while working can serve double duty on any nearby bottom. Foam kneeling pads make a satisfyingly loud explosive sound when they connect with a backside.

Locations
There are many possibilities for where and when to administer a spanking while at work outdoors. If you desire privacy, the garden shed can temporarily be renamed the woodshed, and any necessary correction duly administered within.

A greenhouse can be used in a similar fashion, although with less privacy. A garden bench, discreetly located behind shrubs, is perfect for an over the knee spanking. The spankee can be made to bend over a wheelbarrow, and a potting bench easily does double duty as a spanking bench. The larger hose reel containers are also sturdy enough to provide support when the order to "bend over" is given.

Clothing
While working in the garden, thought must be given to the choice of clothing. Naturally, you will want to wear something sturdy, comfortable and washable, but keep in mind the appropriateness for spanking. Overalls are generally the first choice for doing heavy, dirty work, but they are difficult to pull down quickly, so the spankee should think again, and perhaps choose jeans with an elasticized waist.

Similarly, for the spanker, pants with a belt are just as serviceable but have the added benefit of belt loops to hold that very important implement. The head gardener should also wear a tool belt, to hold various small hand tools and perhaps a wooden paddle, just in case. For footwear, gardening clogs are standard, and they have the advantage of being easy to slip off for a slippering. Leather gloves provide maximum impact while protecting the hands as they are intended to do. A thoughtful accessory for the spankee is a set of protective knee pads.

Activities
Many gardening activities lend themselves to spanking quite naturally. Bending over while gathering fallen branches, planting seeds or weeding the flower beds is an open invitation.

Pruning trees and shrubs often leads to bundling those trimmings into a handy rod, then trying it out. Erecting a bamboo frame for supporting beans or a tripod for tomatoes often leads to experimentation with your structure as a makeshift St. Andrew's cross. Make sure it is sturdy enough before you start.

These are only a few suggestions. I am certain you will come up with your own variations, and your garden will be the envy of your neighbours.

I have to laugh. When I read this, I can remember and sometimes still see the women doing their gardening and bent over a flowerbed in shorts, and some even in a summer dress. I ride past and shake my head with a giggle. That bottom is so tempting is my first thought.

A cute piece, just like Hermione herself.

Bendover - What a lovely compliment; how very sweet of you.

Miss_Naughty - I hope it's made you long for a trowel of your own.

This excellent piece puts a whole new complexion on the exercise of gardening - fertile ground indeed! I do hope there are a couple of gaps in your hedge, Hermione. I loved it, thanks!

This is a hoot, spanking as a gardening pastime. Do be careful and watch for stinging bees and hornets, nasty mosquitoes, brutal black flies and horror of horrors a sunburn in places on your body never before exposed to the unforgiving spring sunshine. You rosearians who spray and prune this time of year can attest to the painful nature of those brutal canes- don't get your heartbeat up, they have thorns, lovelies. Take care with stinging nettles. Take care, readers, take care in the garden.

I can report that I have tried using runner beans as an impromptu spanking implement and they failed miserably :( I shall report back later in the year on the suitability of rhubarb.

A cucumber has possibilities, but probably to the detriment of its edibility.

Garden ponds also have potential if either the bottom or the implement is dipped in them before contact occurs. Make sure no unfortunate wildlife is caught in between, though.

Not much chance of sunburn around these parts! It's rained all day long.

An entertaining piece by Hermione. Our garden is thoroughly overlooked, so little prospect of any OTK fun here.

I normally try to stay away from gardens for various reasons, but in this article you have given reasons for considering the start of a new career...LOL

I would think anyplace can be used for spanking but the ideas here place a garden near the top of the list for locations.

Thanks for the laugh and a new way to get some spanked,...hmmm...is there a story in this?

I totally forgot about stinging nettles! I wrote a post last year about discovering them the hard way in the vegetable bed. I wouldn't recommend them to any but the bravest bottoms.

Fun article...I shall be looking at the ripe plump red tomatoes in my garden with more appreciation today.

ohhhh and the peaches....has anyone else noticed how a ripe peach has an uncanny resemblance of a bared bottom? or do I just need to get my eye glasses adjusted?

I'm sure I saw this or something very similar on Gardener's World on the BBC recently. Sound and sensible advice, which rather grows on one the more one reads. I can recommend apple tree branches, at the right time of year, as exceedingly wicked switches, solid but flexible.

Yes, I was expecting to see a reference to stinging nettles, but I see you've been reminded about them.

I'm afraid that, as a very reluctant gardener, my first association is with a story in 'Janus' long ago about girls in a reformatory school who were set to work to spend the afternoon weeding. One, the local ''toughie', callled Elaine, who always ensured that she got the most and hardest thrashings in order to impress her rivals, deliberately spent the whole session idling away her time so that at the end she had pulled up no weeds at all. With the inevitably severe consequences! Now _that_ would make gardening more interesting...!

And of course working outside, when there are plenty of bushes and trees to be pruned for switches. Be a real hazard for women who like to garden in short shorts if they had someone around who believed in the oldfashioned rural South discipline of a "good switching on the naked legs". And a pair of shorts is much easier to pull down than jeans or overalls if the target is a bottom
