Interview with the Author: Katie B How did you get started writing spanking fiction? Although I can't pinpoint exactly when that day was I can say it was either in fourth or fifth grade. I can remember buying cute little spiral notebooks and writing late into the night. I'd hide my notebooks under my bed praying no one would ever see them. Who knows for sure if I was really as sneaky as I thought. Eventually in Junior High I switched over to the typewriter! That tells you how old I am, huh? Of course my writing was pretty bad at that age but I loved writing. I'd get extremely excited even back then. I never in a million years planned for anyone to read my writings. I've said it before and will say it again, it still amazes me that anyone likes what I write! (I know there are some that despise what I write as well).Where do you find inspiration for your stories? When I least expect it usually! It's amazing where and when ideas for new stories pop up. I always have a small notepad in my purse just in case I am inspired by something. If I don't write it down immediately the idea would be gone in the next instant! I've even had times when I've been sound asleep when something interesting comes to mind, and half asleep I'll scrawl down the ideas and go right back to sleep. However there have been several occasions where the story idea keeps me awake and I've had to get up in the dead of night to write right then and there. Several stories I've actually written in one sitting are the most popular ones such as Back to the Woodshed, and Daddie's Little Black Book.When you write, do you ever model any characters after actual people? I suppose there's got to be someone in the world fitting most profiles anyone writes about. I'll see a characteristic in someone that I think might make a good storyline and create my character after them. I don't have anyone I've ever thought, "Wow, he/she would make a great character in a story but I have seen certain characteristics someone displayed that made me think twice. Being a school teacher I must admit many thoughts came from school situations. Anyone who has ready any of my stories knows the chances of the main character being a sassy young teenage girl is pretty good before they even start reading! And although I still sway that way at times, I am more apt to write about young women these days as I remarried not long ago and tend to think more about married couples now.And contrary to what many readers think, I have never based any of the stories on my own life. Sadly enough I was NEVER strapped to a tree or taken to a woodshed for a good bottom blistering! I can probably count on my hand how many spankings I received as a child and none of them were ever that bad. What are your views on spanking fan fiction? No pun intended but I am not a fan of writing fan fiction. I know a lot of people like to write it but I usually avoid such stories. I guess I can understand why some like to write spanking scenarios with characters already created because it allows them to concentrate on the situation at hand rather then trying to develop the character but I have never gotten into that. I must admit however, even though I don't write it sometimes I do like to fantasize about certain characters spanking my butt black and blue.When writing a longer story, do you plot out the detail in advance, or make it up as you go along? I can't say I do it totally one way or the other all the time. I usually try planning out the plot at least through the first several chapters before starting to write the actual story. I find if I don't have most of the story laid out I can write myself into a hole with nowhere to go. I've actually written whole stories before without a lot of planning only to end up discarding them because the ending was absolutely horrible. I do believe in the long run it's best to plan before writing. A lot of the shorter stories however are written as I go.Do you have a favorite book or story that you've written? There have been times I have felt pressure to get a story finished so it became more of a chore then a pleasure to write. But I must admit most stories have been a joy to complete. And even though some stories have been real stinkers I'm proud of most of them and anxiously await to share them with my readers. I love the comments made on them... yes, even the negative ones, and I've had plenty of those. I can honestly say I've read each and every comment made and even learned from them. I think I've tamed my stories down a great deal since I started writing on the LSF.I do have one series that was my very favorite but I'm not sure I can really explain why. I simply fell in love with father and daughter in, The Girl Will Never Learn. I could hardly stand saying goodbye to them! It was very sad writing the last chapter to this story but I realized it needed to be done. Nothing can go on forever. Name some stories by other spanking authors that you like, and say why. I've read and enjoyed many stories written by different authors in the Kilahara library. Everyone has their own style and different attributes I admire. I've always loved and envied a little the flowery way several authors such as Rick and Flopsybunny write. Bendover always touches certain erotic zones for me as well. A Garden Party by Case Wintermute also caused a few goosebumps!Recently I have enjoyed the e-books by Abigail Armani... The Texas Rancher and The English Rose, My Texas Cowboy and The Cattle Rustler's Bride. All the characters were very well developed and I adored the story lines. I've always loved the English and as I am a Texas girl, mixing the two together was just perfect! Being a Christian woman I was very intrigued by the book, Christian Domestic Spanking Romance Short Story Collection by Leah Kelley. I bought it off Amazon and adored it. It led me to purchase another novel of hers, Punished Wives.. One of the stories in that one really turned me on because a belt was used quite often. Right now I am attempting to get started with the novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, just to see what all the excitement is about. What is your favorite genre? My favorite genre is fiction in general. I especially love spanking stories with a twist at the end, which I have been able to pull off in several stories. I've tried writing science fiction and horror but wasn't very successful. I've always thought it would be neat to write a mystery but have never thought of a great plot that hasn't already been done.Which Point of View do you tend to write in? Why do you prefer it over other POV's? I actually like to use both First and Third Person Point of View. It simply depends on the story and which one would make the story flow the best. I suppose I tend to use third person the most only so that I can get into the heads of other characters as well as the main one.Summing it all up... All in all I enjoy writing and find it more then not, very relaxing. However, I go in spurts. Some months I seem to do nothing but write and then there are times I go through long stretches where I don't write one single word. I'm going through one stretch like that right now. But I'm sure soon though I will be back at the old keyboard pounding out one story after another! I don't see myself quitting any time soon. 12 comments
