In Conversation with: John Osborne (cont.) Presumably not everything goes smoothly when setting up and performing a photo-shoot. Are there any particular mishaps you'd be happy to share with us? Yeah, the very 1st shoot was a disaster. The girls I had hired didn't turn up, I had an expensive house hired for the week, and so Jean Bradley (who I had hired as a domme) agreed to switch. I've seen her work in the past and she can take anything. Unfortunately on her very first film, a weak spot flared and burst leaving blood everywhere, we had to place a plaster over this, re cut and start again, it wasn't the best of starts!Of course, as I said, girls calling up the day before to cancel are a waste of my time and I won't bother with them again. There always appears to be a death in the family or a pet needs putting down, come on girls, be original for goodness sake! Or am I just an old cynic? There seems to be a deluge of sites offering spanking videos for sale these days. What would you say distinguishes AAA Spanking from the rest? I think it is the clips site phenomenon that has exploded, making it easier to upload content, but this is often amateurish and rather expensive for the prospective client. I'm not a big fan, personally of clips only deals, but I do them as there appears to be a market for them, but I run it in conjunction with my members site. I only have one recurring membership and I just don't get people scared of this, it is not 1999 any more where sly companies would make it hard for you to cancel, it's a very transparent business nowadays, we only use respectable billing agents and our support (that's me, by the way) is top notch. If you write to me with a problem, or have feedback, I always answer and the links are inside and outside the member area of my site. Customer Support is a priority for me, so I do take it personally when there are those that can't be bothered to write in when they have a problem. I sometimes write to them when I can see they are unable to enter a site and try to help them... how many sites do that, eh? So apart from the excellent customer support, I try to make the site as simple but as engaging as possible. I offer 2 download formats wmv (which is still very popular) and MP4 which I prefer and can be viewed on all operating systems. It's also in a decent HD quality as all our films are in this format so playback quality should never be an issue. We also don't do big music scores or grand titles, there are some that like this, but we are not a massive production company, people are there to watch spanking films and clips, and that's what we want to give them, with some amusing story-lines thrown in to make the films engaging. The navigation around the site is easy, I also index models and the films they appear in, including the male tops, as it is only fair to acknowledge their performances too. I would have had plans to use a forum or comments section inside the site but the security software that we use prevents us from doing this so I might just set up a forum on a separate domain and try that as I think interaction and feedback is important. I hope we live up to that, we are enthusiasts who like to make films we like, and hope others appreciate our work too! I think that is what sets AAA apart from the others, it is a genuinely small run, unpretentious site that respects those who take the time and effort to join and help keep us producing more content. What, if anything, do you find frustrating in regards to producing spanking vids and is piracy a real issue for you? I think it is the editing, as sometimes it never comes out the way you remember it on the day. Maybe when you see the final result, you remember that you could have placed another cam angle in to get a better shot or view. I also get really excited about a film and think "wow, this is gonna sell loads and get rave reviews" and then it doesn't... I find that really annoying. I know the films which I have made are better than some, that is natural. So when the feedback or lack of response to a film I really thought was amazing... it does hurt a bit [laughs]Piracy is a big threat to us. I remember about a year ago some dickhead posted an entire site rip which also showed up on search engine traffic. This was incredibly frustrating and deeply damaging to the site. I have since had to employ someone to look out for such content as well as actively monitor websites that I know contain our pirated content and get these removed. One such idiot keeps re uploading the same film. I think he just does it for fun as he certainly doesn't make a dime off that particular film. What I object to most is the pirates who are there to profit off our content, trying to archive their bonus per 1000 downloads and links to our content and other sites is posted on 100s of forums. However, I try to make sure our content becomes as unpalatable as possible to those who want to profit from our hard earned content as the links do get removed quite quickly and often. It's a pity as I would rather spend time promoting my site than checking everyday for our stolen stuff, but that is the nature of the biz... and it's good to know that file-lockers and sharers are finding it harder as more companies are now realising just how serious piracy has become and I know it is harder for these parasites to make easy money. Oron recently followed Megaupload and were removed, along with all those millions of links and stored data. It did make me giggle, I have to tell you!   Zoe Spanks JessicaSarnies & Red Bottoms What advice would you give to anyone else thinking of setting up a spanking video business? Find some friends in the biz, talk to them for advice and help. Talk to other producers (like me) we are all very friendly, although of course there is a healthy rivalry too [smiles]. Know your target market and have some idea of how you want to market your site long term before you take the big plunge. Only do it if you want to make films and content for yourselves. There is no massive get rich quick scheme in this market, there really isn't. We are fortunate to cover all our costs and hiring girls but as for profit, hmmm, barely! So only do it if you love the idea of being a webmaster and producing stuff YOU want to make that others will appreciate... and see how it goes. Otherwise I'd say "don't bother" (see my rant on piracy which can damage a site completely if unchecked!)What plans do you have for the future, spanking-related or otherwise? I had planned to open a second spanking-related site by now which involved something so different and I can't say as no one has done that yet, but it involves huge expenditure and I can't justify that presently in the uncertain economic climate, although I am sure I will get something like this started next year, for sure.I also had to invest heavily in new equipment recently which was pretty costly so that plan is on hold but I do have plans to come out with some other new niche type content coming soon to a new clip site I have planned (sorry I can't say any more) but it will be a good one, I'm sure! Of course AAA is my pet project at the moment and I just want to see that grow and develop, I also have big plans for this too with new and emerging viewing technologies. As they say "adapt or die", I intend to adapt the site to make it a pleasurable viewing experience for all folk of all nationalities, age, creed or gender. All I ask is that they enjoy watching ladies get the bare bottom spankings they so deserve, and if it happens to be damned sexy too... who am I to complain? In this article I once again see that the person starting a business such as this must be surrounded with like minded people who also know what they're doing. I guess in the long run it's like gambling in a way. It takes guts and determination.
