Spanking on a Budget
by Katie B

The forty-dollar tawse, a fifty-dollar martinet and heaven knows the hundred-dollar paddles, canes and whips are all erotically hot things to use when turning our bottoms a nice shade of red ... that is if you are blessed with wealth. I unfortunately do not fall into this category. With the economy rapidly falling and having to live on a simple teacher's salary I really have to think twice before spending one red cent. But never fear, spanking enthusiasts, all is not lost. There is a way you can still have a spanking good time even if you have to stick to a budget like I do.

What's Lurking In Your Kitchen Drawer?
For instance, I have discovered many fabulous spanking tools right in my very own kitchen. The most obvious is probably the wooden spoon, which has been featured in many a spanking story. They are convenient, accessible and always do a great job on naughty little bottoms. But besides spoons, I am sure most of you own one or more spatulas. These things are real zingers. WOW! Try one of these little babies and you may never want to use anything else. Last but certainly not least, are cutting boards. No, not humongous ones big enough to cover an elephant's rump, but there are some that work wonderfully well. I have several small boards all around the kitchen that I use for different things. They can redden any derriere nicely.

Boudoir Treasures
Another favorite room for these little spanking treasures would be the bedroom. Here there are many superb items you can use. Besides all the fearsome belts hanging in the closet, one just has to look down to see loads more implements on the floor. What am I talking about? Shoes and slippers of course! There is nothing better then a rubber sole slapping away at your bottom turning it a nice bright red. But do be careful however not to use a slipper you have been swatting spiders or other unsightly vermin with. That can definitely put a damper in any little tryst you might have planned with your partner for the evening.

Bathroom Delights
My favorite room for finding spanking implements would be the bathroom. Anyone who has ever read any of my stories knows I send many a miscreant to the bathroom to retrieve the paddle or hairbrush for their punishment. In real life, like many of you, I have a drawer full of different sized hairbrushes. I'm not sure why I have so many but I do. And all of them except the twirl brush feel pretty damn delightful when swatting away at my ass.

The size of brush you will want to use will depend on how kinky you are feeling or how big the rump is that needs disciplining at the time And if you dig a little deeper, you're bound to find a bath brush. Mine is plastic and extremely cheap. It was actually part of a holiday set I received from one of my students in class one Christmas. I am sure you can already imagine what naughty little thoughts I was thinking when I unwrapped that gift!

The Humble Clothes Brush
There is also the clothes brush, which happens to be a personal favorite of mine. That was the implement used on my own naughty little bottom as I was growing up. My mom or dad would tell me to go to the bathroom and get the brush and I would reluctantly trek off to get it. It was always in the bottom drawer and after retrieving it I would walk slowly back to the parent about to use it and hand it over. Bending over, bawling the whole time of course, I would wait until my dress was raised or my pants lowered until the only thing showing were my panties. The spanks varied but it was usually between five to ten and then I was sent to my room. So indubitably today when I see a clothes brush on a store shelf I feel a little tingle down in the pit of my stomach.

Look No Further Than Your Own Back Yard
Continuing our search for simple household implements will take us out to the back yard (the garden for my UK friends). As you already know, yards are all different. Some are huge, some are small, some are private and some offer no privacy at all. However most yards have one thing in common and that is that they usually have trees. Cutting limbs off the tree yourself or sending the guilty party out to cut the limbs are both extremely titillating. I get the shivers either way. And if you really feel kinky, place that sliver of a switch in between those two saucy little orbs as you send their owner to the corner. Alternatively, have it placed between your own if yours is the one being sent to the corner.

The Woodshed
Yeah to those that might have a woodshed or tool shed in their back yard. My father had a shop behind the house I grew up in but I was never spanked there. And although all I have in my own backyard now are trees and a swing set I can still imagine many a kinky scenario happening in one of these places. However, these are strictly places not implements, so I digress.

Stingy Things
Have you ever thought about using simply a book or a back scratcher? Both of these things can cause quite a sting. Rulers are also very nice to use but not the flimsy ones you might buy your child for the first day of school. They should be heavy enough so they won't break after just a few whacks. If you don't have one, you can usually buy a fairly thick one very cheap at an office supply store.

These are just a few things we can use to stretch the pocket book. I am sure if you look hard enough, you can find even more wonderful implements right there in your home. But, if all else fails, or if none of the above appeal to you, use the hand. It is accessible and can go places and do things other implements can't. But regardless of what you choose, just have a spanking good time!

Very nice and funny article! I have always thought the "natural" implements that you find around the house more arousing than the expensive ones you buy in stores, probably because I am mainly interested in everyday spankings that grow out of a real life situation.

Thanks, Katie - this is not only informative for those of us on limited public service salaries, but also very entertaining!

Good article. The best impliment is still the hand. It will not do as much damage. Still, it is easier to use whatever is around the house.

I agree Sebastian that the hand should be counted as an implement. Maybe there should be a future article discussing the differences of being spanked with a bare hand as versus a gloved one.

Excellent article. It never ceases to amaze me how creative people can be in putting things to other uses. The mention of a spatula in the article is spot on as it is a prime example of something cheaply obtained that can be put to more than one use, doubling as it does as an innocuous kitchen implement or a very precise bringer of pain. Well done Katie B.

I believe some folks call these "pervertibles" and they make a visit to the store much more interesting as you think of what you can do with seemingly innocent housewares. Thanks for a comprehensive and witty overview of the subject.

I've got a fair selection of relatively expensive paddles and tawses, several made by the excellent London Tanners and worth every penny. But one of my most effective and dreaded implements is a plastic fly-swat that cost all of 75p in my local hardware store.

Girls who've been on the receiving end of this one say it delivers a high, sharp sting like nothing else - and certainly the yelps and squirms it elicits seems to bear that out. My gf Maggie often threatens to break it; but I cheerfully point out that I can very easily buy half-a-dozen more - and then use all of them on her as punishment for breaking the original....

Yes, flyswatters are cheap and pack a wallop. Interesting and well thought article Katie B.

As I mentioned once before in the Forum there is an American aircraft supply company named Aircraft Spruce that sells Delrin rods very cheaply. They come in thicknesses from 1/8 " to 1/2" in any length that you want. They are very similar to the rattan cane but are even more painful as they are denser and heavier. I bought five three foot rods in various thicknesses for a total of $20 including shipping (in the US). Frugal types should take notice.

A wonderful article, with a rich variety of easily obtained implements to choose from; may I suggest the butter pat as an additional choice, not as large as a wooden paddle, but packing quite a sting!

It is amazing what a little bit of ingenuity does. I rather naughtily acquired from the office an 18 inch ruler that was rather pleasant. I loved reading the article, it was very humorous. The fact is, that when you now go to use most things in your home, you don't think of what it was originally intended for, you instead think "I wonder what it will feel like on my bottom?" and smile.

A most useful study, which I have forwarded to the new governments in Greece and Italy. It will help enormously with their austerity packages.

Katie B has very likely saved the eurozone.

I too remember my Mom's wooden spoon as a child but up to age 14. Remembering the sting still gives me shivers. Of course it was always bare bottom. She also had a hairbrush which got my attention in its own special way. But the spoon was still tops when it came to stings!

I make my own paddles in my workshop with scraps of wood left over from home repair projects. 3/8" plywood or a piece of pine work just as well as those 100 dollar paddles sold on line (a ridiculous price for $2.00 worth of wood and fifty cents worth of varnish and 15 minutes labor.)

This was really nice and quite funny, as well as being true of course. I am a poor student (sympathy please : awwwww) AND I'm living in London which costs a fortune, and I havent got a clue anyway about how to buy expensive whips or stuff that would not really interest me anyway.
What I like about Katie's article is that she has apparently felt all those wicked spoons and things, first hand, lovely! Sort of same for me, as if I want to, I can still pinch the slipper that my mum used to give me, and slippers are just right, not too vicious!! Katie, you sould write a story about "spanking round the house", maybe it could be a treasure hunt where you get a clue to find the next instrument?

A trip to Home Depot or Lowe's is a most interesting visit when one's "spanko" meter is tuned up...and well, knowing Ms. Katie, that would be just about any visit, I'm sure. Many very ordinary home repair items can be put to multiple uses by a creative wicked Auntie.

A great article, my aunt's weapon of choice was a paddle from the old paddle ball game with the red ball attached. We graduated to a hand made paddle when she talked to our shop teacher at school.

Mom had a new celling fan installed and she kept one of the blades. That thin blade can sure pack a wallop when I am bare butt over her knee. Being over 21 she can make me bawl like a baby and dance around rubbing my bottom when she has finished with me.

Katie, you mentioned your own naughty little thoughts as you unwrapped the bath set that you received as a Christmas gift from one of your students.

Knowing how kids are today, your student may have entertained similar thoughts upon presenting you with the gift!

You forgot the pizza shovel. It is made of wood and a bit bigger than a ping pong paddle. You can pick one up at a kitchen store. It is light so very stingy. I have a miniature conoe paddle I got at a boat show. Then there is the small canoe paddle with the children's menu on it. I don't want to leave out the bounce back paddle (with the ball attacvhed with an elastic) made of 10mm Baltic birch plywood (the best material for paddles) with a caricature of G H W Bush Sr. and the words "Bush Whacker" on it. Got it in D.C. And there are more... I do not recommend the delrin, plastic cuts too easily. You can get enough kooboo rattan from a caning shop for 10 bucks to make 20 canes.

Handy implements, in my opinion, are far better and more interesting than those that can be purchased at significant cost (though, I have to say, I wouldn't be without a leather paddle). But really - you don't know what you have so many hairbrushes?

One warning about rulers - some come with what is called "a straight edge", which is a straight metal on one side. Playing with that can cause problems.

Of course the hand is always available, either bare or gloved.
The paint department at the hardware store usually has the larger paint stirring sticks. for 5 gallon buckets. It was once common in Europe to use the carpet beater as well.

A bunch of ty-wraps, about 30 of them, bundle them together with electrical tape on one side and use them like you would a bundle of birch twigs. You find ty-wraps in the electrical department in a home improvement store. If used as a spanking implement, the sensation is very different from many other toys. Of course the bundle will tease and tickle just as much as punish and sting. Even experienced spankers are surprised and excited about a "new" toy. A ty-wrap length of 14 inches is my preference.

If you are near a good equestrian shop (saddles and things for horses and riders) they have the most wonderful little whips for around ten dollars. Places like Hobby Lobby have paddles, the idea is you finish them, paint, design etc. At least I think that's the idea. As has been mentioned any good kitchen department. Dowel rods of all diameters can be had at hardware stores, get several of about 3mm thickness, ,make your own birch.

Yes, many common household items can double as nice spanking implements. Someone mentioned a visit to a Home Depot or Lowe's where in the finish lumber department, hardwood pieces ranging in thickness and length can be purchased quite cheap. A little sandpaper finishing to round off the edges and these make very nice paddles. No handle needed as they already fit nicely in the hand. I have seen them ranging from 2 to 4 inches (5.08 to 10.16 cm for our European readers). The army / navy shop was also mentioned. very nice selection of belts can be found here as well as at any western wear shop. Again, these items can be purchased without breaking the bank.

Thank you Kate for the handy dandy spanking guide. We found another one at The Observer Cooking Expo. It has a deceptive bottom sting. It's a noodle strainer made of heavy duty plastic cupped on one end with holes and a handle the length of a cooking spoon.

What a wonderful article Katie, you covered so many spanking implement's. I always say that one is only limited by their own imagination. I know that often I am distracted walking through stores by potential bottom smackers right down to heaving a sigh while looking at a piece of exotic wood and thinking of the shape it could be crafted into and how it would sting. Wouldn't it be fun for a couple to have a weekly challenge to come up with something different for a spanking and keep a log.

I was replacing a window screen and noticed that screen spline (those thin rubbery-plastic, round, ridged strips that hold the screen in place) can be re-purposed. Cut them about 18 inches long, put 4 or 5 (or more) of them together, tie or tape at one end, and you have a nice little flogger. Roll it up and it fits in the palm of your hand, so it's great for traveling. Or attach a handle if you want to get a better swing. Less than $5 for 25 feet of it at Home Depot.

When I was growing up there were never any "dedicated" spanking implements, i.e. an implement that was used only for spanking. That wasn't necessary at all.

In our house there were four hairbrushes, three wooden spoons, two wooden rulers, or a belt from my dad's closet always available when needed..
