In Praise of the Carpet Slipper
by Februs

The first in a series focussing on the implements of spanking.

Definition
I think the first thing to say is that references to the slipper as a spanking implement tend to be somewhat confusing as the same term is used to describe a number of items which are actually quite different. In general it is pretty much safe to assume that references to the 'slipper' within a story set in school are more than likely describing a gym shoe or plimsoll than an actual slipper while, in general, those within a domestic setting are more likely to be describing the rubber soled carpet slipper which is the subject of this particular article. The carpet slipper I personally favour is equipped with a foam base covered with a layer of vulcanised rubber comprising the sole which is smooth and flexible and preferably in size 11 or 12. This particular kind of slipper tends not to be manufactured these days although if you search hard enough you can still come across them.

Popularity
Fans of the rubber soled carpet slipper as the spanking implement of choice are certainly very much in the minority and this can easily be seen following a cursory inspection of the commercial spanking videos that are available for viewing. In addition, the implements that tend to be featured within spanking fiction and within the photoshoots that appeared in the majority of spanking magazines rarely included the carpet slipper. It's also really something more applicable to the British than the average American spanko.

Sting
One of the myths regarding the carpet slipper that's often encountered, judging from the discussions on a number of the spanking forums, is that somehow they don't hurt. One suspects this is based on a misunderstanding of the kind of slipper that would typically be used to carry out a satisfactory spanking. It's certainly true, however, to say that they generate far more sting than thud, although some of them with a thicker base can pack quite a punch too. Used with a reasonable degree of force and repetition they can be intensely painful but they also allow the spanker to very easily vary the degree of sting imparted.

In The Comics
During the 1970s and for some years later, until political correctness put a stop to it, the carpet slipper featured heavily in British comics such as the Dandy and Hotspur and several others but was perhaps most prevalent in the Beano where characters such as Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger and Dennis the Menace were subjected to a good whacking with an over-sized bendy carpet slipper, usually wielded by an exasperated, irate father, in almost every issue. It was commonplace to see the last panel of a story strip showing the unfortunate spankee sat on a vast pile of soft cushions, a series of lines radiating from the victim's posterior indicating the resultant throbbing. Whether a reality or not, the world portrayed by the Beano and other comics of its time very much suggested that caning was the punishment of choice at school in the UK whilst at home the domestic carpet slipper was king.

Some Advantages
What then would I recommend about the carpet slipper and what advantages might if offer over the more popular alternatives?

Well firstly, they're highly unlikely to cause any real damage but are still able to generate anything from a mild to an intensely painful sting.

Secondly, they make a particularly satisfying WHUPP! when brought into contact with their intended target and leave a very satisfying red imprint behind.

Thirdly, they tend to be exceptionally flexible and are not going to suddenly break, something I'm able to appreciate following the unfortunate demise of both my favourite riding crop and cane, both of which snapped when merely being brandished through the air, let alone being put to good use.

Fourthly, transportation is not an issue, and you're unlikely to be faced with any embarrassment should your luggage be searched at the airport or when the maid is cleaning your hotel room.

Fifthly, they're not going to break the bank, and at one time they could be found in bargain bins for no more than a few pounds.

Lastly, they can be be administered in a variety of positions, both standing and otk or with the spankee bent over the bed, armchair or other suitable structure.

It is also my favourite spanking implement and I love reading stories which feature a carpet slipper, plimsoll or gym shoe. I have been the recipient of the latter two and anybody who thinks they do not hurt should feel the effect of a plimsoll on their hand. In my school it was mostly on the buttocks but one PE teacher applied it to the hand, always the non writing hand you understand because of it`s effects on the fingers. Thank you Februs for the stroll down memory lane.

Ok, I'm sold! Their versatility is hereby proven beyond any doubt. I love Minnie's comment, as if she'd tried various Dads.

A great article and most informative. Not something I have really tried but I have been assured of its efficacy by a certain bunny! I used to love Minnie and all those naughty comic characters too.

I really enjoyed reading this, particularly as I'm in rather a nostalgic mood at the moment. Forunately my father's slipper - he had fearsomely large footwear at size 14! - was a very soft leather moccasin. I think it was intended to terrorise rather than sting. Thanks for a great article, Februs.

Totally agree, Februs: the slipper is one of the finest and most effective spanking implements, besides being very satisfying to use. I was quite surprised, though, to find that it's relatively unknown across the Atlantic.

A few years ago, when our Pennsylvania friends Harry and Rhonda came to visit, I introduced Rhonda to the delights of a good slippering. She was evidently impressed, since she went back and told all her scene friends about it. So the next year, when Maggie and I went over for one of H & R's famous weekend spanking parties, several females who were due to attend put in a special request: "Tell Phil to bring his slipper!"

Seems they were most curious to learn what it felt like. Well, they certainly found out....

OH! That brought back a memory I nearly forgot.

I believe I was in my pre-teens and I was helping Mom get breakfast on the table, when she threatened me with her slipper for being sassy. We both looked down at her brand new fluffy yellow bunny slippers and started laughing. Unbeknownst to us, my Step-dad had come into the kitchen and gave me a good whump with his own leather soled slipper. As I whirled around in surprise grabbing my butt he walked out again saying "That'll work." That was my one and only introduction to the slipper.

Great article. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Incidentally, a while back I got into a dispute with Dallas (of 'Dallas Spanks Hard') on his blog. Someone had written in asking if he ever used a slipper, and he responded quite categorically that a slipper was completely ineffectual as a spanking implement.

I wrote saying that I knew quite a few girls who had good reason to attest the contrary, and asking what kind of slipper he'd tried using? His answer was that he'd never used a slipper of any kind, he simply knew it would have no impact. I came back with the obvious 'don't knock it till you've tried it' reply, but Dallas in his god-given wisdom was immovable....

Phil, I've come across a few male spankers with a similar attitude and put it down to a sort of 'macho-man' attitude where unless you're using a dragon cane or large block of wood they consider it 'ineffectual'. The question I'd pose is 'ineffectual in what way?' If we're discussing what I consider to be spanking, punishment or otherwise, my own personal experience says the slipper is ideal but then, like yourself, I'm basing that on actual experience rather than making it up as I go along on a blog. If the question is 'Can we inflict a load of tissue damage and beat someone into submission?' then clearly the slipper is not going to be the implement of choice.

I can remember feeling my step-mom's slipper on occasion, it was always when I was bent over her hip in a standing position. She would reach down and taking it off her foot would use it liberally at least a dozen times before letting me go. Usually it varied between a slipper or a flip-flop sandal, either one stung a lot. The bad thing as a kid was that she always had something to use besides her hand as it was what the step-mother wore every day.

All in all, a highly useful implement. My mother favored a sexy little slip on bedroom slippers with a leather sole, the plimsol you describe would have been too unfashionable for her to wear around the house. she had an acute sense of vanity. She felt duty bound to elevate her standards regarding house slippers. Great article.

Both my partner & I agree that this 'sting' is the best. She does not swing hard & neither do I, but the bite is painful! Thanks for your thoughts.

Very interesting and educational. I would never have considered a slipper as a form of punishment until I joined this Library. Now I understand much better the proper use of footwear. I do have one question, however, what is a plimsoll?

I am a devotee of the plimsoll and include the rubber soled carpet slipper as a favourite. Much more personal thank the US's block of cold wood. The thought of the crack of the smooth rubber sole, over knee or bending over, smashing!

I think the carpet slipper and plimsole are such popular implements because they seldom tend to bruise while at the same time give an intensely painful spanking. It is my Top's implement of choice and one I am all too familiar with. I believe second to the hairbrush so popular with shall we say the non British spanko. When my Top brings out the slipper I know I am in for a hot bottom boogie.

Agreed, Mario. I've never known a slipper to bruise (though I suspect a heavy plimsoll might), but it evidently stings like the devil - at least if the very satisfying yelps and squeals it elicits are anything to go by....

I had never tried the slipper until I spotted one of my wife's fuzzy ones with a good sole on it. She was more than happy to try it out on my bottom. This type is hard to find anymore, darn it. I'd like to read more stories incorporating this implement.

Slippers vary a lot in their effectiveness as spanking implements, depending on the thickness, density and flexibility of the sole. So it is best to try before you buy, if that can be done without drawing too much attention from other shoppers.

Hear hear Februs! As Flops knows I am a serious fan of both the Carpet slipper and the plimsoll as spanking implements, they make an excellent substitue for the hand. RSS can be easily purchased on Ebay or through GBS. I think the Pirelli is the best a good strong sole which would sting mightily when used OTK and of course this is a very personal and intimate position. Smaller plimsolls work OTK very well, once you get to larger ones other positions are more emotive (bend over and touch your toes, don't move or you'll get extra).

I am not talking of plimsolls in the Converse mode, too thick and cumbersome but more the 'Old School retro plimsoll' Available again on Ebay or look on Amazon, you will be spoilt for choice. They need to be worn a while to improve flexibility, and it's a good idea to cut out the heel support to enable a woman's hand to hold it easier and apply it effectively!

A more recent entrant to the field of play would be Flossys and even Toms. Sizes can go up to a huge 15 in some places and 11, 12, 13 are freely available. My other favourites are the Victoria and Bensimon ranges, especially when they are well worn! (Go on Ebay France, search Chausseurs Tennis). Good Grief I do drone on!

When living in England for a year, now over three decades ago, there were lots of plimsolls for sell in the stores, which could easily be put to an erotic or punitive use. Not sure about the availability, then, of carpet slippers. Now that age is catching up with us, a concern for my wife, when choosing a spanking tool is the amount of energy she must expend in order to give me an effective spanking. What works best for us is a long-handled 3/8 inch thick wooden paddle. It is easy for her to use efficaciously. I am afraid, at this point in our lives, that she could not give me much of a spanking with a carpet slipper. A pity; the article makes its use seem so very attractive for both spanker and spankee.

That would have been a good idea with my wife's slipper, she might have used it more often since it was hard for her to grip it easily.

Great piece of research. As Danny says there is a big difference between a carpet slipper and a properly applied plimsoll. Our PE master was very handy with the latter and when pushed would send a boy to the changing room to be told to bend over for six whacks with shorts down on the bare bottom. Not far short of a caning, I can tell you from personal recall! PG.

The great advantage is that, when worn habitually in the house, to protect the carpet, it is immediately to hand. It allows the decision on adding to a young lady's spontaneous hand spanking, either OTK or bending over, to be made at any moment depending on her comportment and can supply significant discomfort with minimal risk of bruising.

I'm size 10 myself and have always found the carpet slipper as you described a stalwart of domestic discipline. They are always at hand to keep the ladies and girls of well behaved. They deliver a first rate spanking, always to bare bottom in my household and can leave a bottom bright red. There was a children's party game "hunt the slipper" in which the slipper was hidden and all the children at the party tried to find it. The winner was then given a spanking with the slipper by the father of the child whose party it was. Always it seemed a girl with a fat bottom would win.
