Welcome to the first issue in 2013, and the beginning of Volume 2, of the Wellred Weekly. As we all know, this august publication doesn't come out weekly at all, which of course makes it all the more exciting when it eventually appears! In this issue we have another fantastic selection of articles for your enjoyment.

Fiona Blue shares her Experience of 'Coming Out' as a spanko, an experience which is both frightening and liberating. It takes tremendous courage to out oneself as anything deemed unpopular or beyond the norm, and that of course includes spanking. Once publicly outed, Fiona had to face the consequences and in the process found out who her real friends are.

We are delighted to welcome back Garth Toyntanen. He writes in his usual erudite way, about The Nun in Spanking Literature. We see that the nun is practically universally portrayed in the dominant role in spanking literature. Indeed, the stern and self-righteous nun seems equally comfortable in the classroom of a strict private boarding or finishing school as she is within the convent or the equally secure surrounds of the reformatory or church-run charity home for 'wayward young women'. From the facts presented we can only concur that the nun in spanking literature makes a most formidable and vengeful disciplinarian.

Arthur James Blimp takes us on a heady nostalgic trip with his fascinating account of Corporal Punishment in Schoolboy Fiction. Various works are discussed, ranging from books penned by the Reverend F.W. Farrar and the Rev. Arthur Noel Malan to Frank Richards, author of the well loved character Billy Bunter. The piece is wonderfully illustrated by covers of yesteryear.

Publications of a different nature are discussed by tenb6 in his article Memories of Mr Magazine. He reminds us that it is sometimes difficult for younger members to believe just how challenging it was to be a spanking enthusiast back in the pre-internet days. He thought that he "was doomed to go to my grave without having experienced this nirvana even once." Happily this has not been the case as Mr Magazine saved the day! Read the article to find out what was so special about this iconic spanking mag.

Next, we have Angela Fox talking about Creating 3D Spanking Images. She gives us an interesting insight into the creative and technical processes involved in creating these images using a software program called Daz 3D studio. The illustrations represent the various stages, and on completion of the figures, the whole scenario can be brought fully to life by the addition of some basic rectangles and primitives to create walls and even furniture.

Dominic Black presents Part 1 of Corporal Punishment: Archetype, Myth & Reality. Given that he works as a psychotherapist, even whilst retaining strict confidentiality, he is in a position to tap into his experiences involving clients who have talked about their fascination with spanked bottoms. He also gives a personal perspective, drawing on his early teenage years and his experiences with a formidable, spinsterish piano teacher. There is much more to come of this fascinating account, with three more parts to be published in subsequent issues.

We are pleased to present an author interview with Goodgulf, who shares with us how he first got involved with writing spanking fiction following on from bulletin boards and Usenet groups. Unlike most of our other authors interviewed thus far, Goodgulf is keen on spanking fan fiction, though he does acknowledge it is difficult to get right, stating the downside is that everyone has their own personal interpretation "on who the characters are and how the world operates and if you violate their unspoken expectations then your story just won't work for those readers."

Three cheers for virtual libraries, and three cheers for Gail who has penned an article on The LSF – A Haven for Budding Writers. For those people who do not know about the LSF, this piece will serve as a good introduction; for those already familiar with the LSF and its activities, they will be reminded of the sense of community and camaraderie that exists in this little piece of cyberspace; and for prospective authors, the LSF is most definitely the place to visit to meet non-judgemental people who share an interest in the same kink.

Has anyone ever been brave enough to try out a spanking machine? Lewsseau has. In fact, he's gone one better by buying one of his own! In A Personal Review of the Spankomatic II, Lewsseau tells us everything we need to know about spanking machines – from the solenoid valves to random speed settings to the implements used. And this is the fun bit - a variety of implements can be purchased and attached to the hinged arm of the head unit. The creator of this mighty machine refers to the implements as "End Effectors" - but I think we much prefer paddles and canes!

Pandora Blake is a name I'm sure many of you will recognise. Pandora brings us A Beginner's Guide to Spanking. Many aspects are discussed, but the key sentence for me at least, is: "Here's what spanking isn't: it's not unhealthy, it's not linked to past abuse or trauma, and doesn't mean you're mentally unwell." Read the article for some practical no-nonsense advice on taking the plunge. As Pandora notes - you'll never know until you try.

Anastasia Vitsky writes about Diversity in Spanking Fiction. She highlights her writing technique of leaving physical description to the reader's imagination. The reasoning behind this is two-fold. Firstly, when authors spell out every single detail and plot point, it essentially says that readers are not smart enough to figure out things for themselves. The second factor is more complex, focusing on race and ethnicity.

Lastly, Sue Lyndon brings us Spanking Fiction Across Genres. Clearly, she has come a long way from the early years where she hid her spanking fiction beneath the mattress. Nowadays she is reading it on a Kindle. Whether its historical spanking fiction, contemporary, science fiction or fantasy or any other genre – she probably has it on her Kindle! (I really must get myself one!) There is a fantastic range of spanking fiction available, and Sue shares examples of her favourite books and authors.

Flopsy and Februs, you have once again put together a really good read. Part entertaining, part educational - it is insightful and a wonderful opportunity to get inside some of the heads of others in this community.,
