In Spanking For Jesus? A Refutation, Jason's Girl defends Domestic Discipline, which for her and her husband reflects a personal, private choice that brings them closer together as a couple and strengthens their marriage in a loving way. This is not the stance portrayed by Ms Zadrozny, in her article featured in the Daily Beast on 19th Jun 2013 entitled Spanking for Jesus: Inside the Unholy World of 'Christian Domestic Discipline'. Jason's Girl refutes Ms. Zadrozny's article and presents a coherent alternative argument about DD.

On a related topic, Kaelah's Therapy? article makes the point that when erotic spanking or BDSM appears as a topic in a mainstream book or film, this often results in a widespread public perception that there is a connection between mental issues and spanking/BDSM. Kaelah explores the way we use our kink. She poses various questions. For example, can spanking relationships be used as a kind of "self-therapy" that helps people to cope with negative experiences, personal insecurities and even potentially damaging behaviour in a controlled manner? She also looks at various power dynamic scenarios and lifestyle choices and makes some very credible observations.

What exactly is the appeal of spanking? Has spanking gone mainstream? Noor-Jehan Yoro Badat answers these questions and more in her article A Spanking Good Story. She paints a picture that shows how spanking has escalated from a secret activity behind closed doors, to one that is represented in movies, on popular TV shows, and in countless romance novels. She interviews various kinksters for their viewpoints, and outlines a series of perspectives. These include spanking being viewed as a wonderful outlet for stress relief, culminating in great sex. One of the interviewees, a professional dominatrix, argues that there is still a stigma to spanking, while someone else takes the opposite stance and feels that increasingly people are exploring their sexuality and becoming more adventurous.

Our featured author in this issue is Katie B, also known as Katie Bradford. Katie began writing stories as a child, hiding her creativity in notebooks under her bed. Fortunately for us, she doesn't have to do that any more. Spanked Little Rich Girl is the title of her first published ebook, and there are many more in the pipeline. Katie gives us an insight into the way she writes and shares with us her favourite titles and authors. It's good to know she has more works planned to keep her followers happy.

Our second interview in this issue is presented in Interview with a Pro-Domme: Miss Jessica. The lovely Miss Jessica explains how she became a professional disciplinarian, and gives us a taster of what happens in her punishment sessions. She has a dedicated room devoted to discipline, containing a wonderful old-fashioned English school desk and wooden chair and a large number of wicked implements within easy reach - her favourites being the cane and the hairbrush! Role play is also on the agenda, with appropriate costumes from Miss Jessica's extensive wardrobe. When she's not disciplining naughty men, she's probably producing her own videos. A busy life for sure!

In his article Going Too Far?, Laurel Aspen expresses some puzzlement and concern at the increasing prevalence of Daddy/daughter and Uncle/baby girl themed blogs. He appreciates there are people who enjoy dressing up and role-playing these kind of situations, but while such activities are tolerated, suggests the wheels can come off when age play dominates the agenda. Why? Because sex and infantalisation are never going to be a good match in the eyes of a wider discriminating public. The key point Laurel makes is that when age play details are posted on the web, showing the participants adopting the persona of a childlike 'babygirl' - this can mislead people towards ill-informed value judgements, and more significantly, could provide a lever for those politicians and theocrats seeking internet censorship.

Psychotherapist Dominic Black presents Part 2 of Corporal Punishment: Archetype, Myth & Reality, continuing his fascinating account. He provides a historical perspective re his account of the punishment of young women in an American puritan sect, with public canings carried out outside after church on a Sunday. However, after 100 years of 'progress' we are drawn into the testimony of several young women who described their beatings in a Christian care home for wayward teenage girls, from the 1970's right through to the early 2000's. When Dominic was growing up, spanking was the norm, as was caning at school. He shares with us some of his school-day recollections.

Institutionalised by Garth Toyntanen describes the backdrop to his book, Institutionalised: Beyond the Stamford Experiment. This is a work that endeavours to go beyond the traditional world of corporal punishment as exemplified by the writing of some of his favourite authors. Garth's intent was to try to incorporate and explore a psychological aspect within the plot, both in terms of probing the mindsets of the protagonists - and in terms of the approach taken by the disciplinarian in imposing on her charge a strict disciplinary régime, itself based around behavioural correction by means of corporal punishment. Fundamentally, he realised that all the related aspects and details surrounding the imposition of strict discipline were as important, if not more so, than the spanking or caning itself.

Next up, we have Jameslovebirch presenting an interesting and informative write-up on Fraternity and Sorority Spanking. This is primarily a North American phenomenon, but is related to the now-banned fagging once widely practised in English schools. College fraternity and sorority spanking is part of the annual hazing rituals associated with recruiting (or rushing) prospective pledges during what is referred to as Rush Week. Enduring a harsh paddling is often the central event in the final initiation ceremony. Various examples of sorority hazing in the news are referred to, plus examples of the topic appearing in pulp novels and comics, mainstream films and television.

The birch has a long history as a punishment implement. DJ Black takes a quick look at The Birch and its Domestic Use. In times past, the boundaries between home and the workplace were blurred and so too were the relationships and boundaries of the family. In such times, the birch was used for chastisement both in the home and the workplace. One of the reasons it went out of fashion is because it required the young lady to bare her bottom for punishment - an act perceived of as being too lewd by the late Victorian Age.

Cayenne tells us about The Allure of the Stocks and Whipping Post, explaining that England's towns and villages still have a substantial legacy of ancient whipping posts and stocks, harking back to the times when corporal punishment was very much a spectator sport. I certainly was unaware that a law of 1405 decreed that every village and town had to be furnished with a set of stocks. Clearly the use of the whipping post was not restricted to England, they were very much in use in America too.

In Recollections: Scenes of Prep-School Life, Ernest paints a vivid picture of life in an English boarding school during the early 1960s. This was a time of pillow fights in the dorm, lights-out, strict masters, and matron prowling the corridors. This was a regime where discipline was largely based upon the application of corporal punishment - usually in the form of a large and very stingy gym shoe. The cane was also used to discipline the senior boys. Fortunately the school had a swimming pool for cooling off overheated bottoms!
